Porsche Removable Sub Enclosure

1. Protecting the car with masking tape and foil and creating the bottom fiberglass shell that form fits into the space. Since the enclosure had to be removable I built the rectangular areas in the corners to help mount the enclosure to the factory subwoofer enclosure mounting points.



2. Using MDF and urethane foam, I created the top shape to fit the JL Audio 13TW5.



3. Protecting the enclosure with tape and foil to create the top of the enclosure.



4. Applying fiberglasss. There are multiple layers of fiberglass mat resin to create a quarter inch thick shell.



5. In order to have enough space to build the concave space behind the grab handle, I made a negative shell separately, again starting with the MDF and urethane foam.

7. Taped off to protect the shape.

10. Using templates and a fiberglass-cutting router bit I made the recessed section. I cut the negative hole and the positive shape so the two parts fit perfectly.





11 & 12. The concave section shaped with body filler before being joined by the rest of the enclosure.



13. Both pieces were beveled to create a groove to be filled with Duraglass. Two pieces joined together with additional resin and mat.



14. Duraglass was applied to the front to smooth the transition between the two parts.



15. Additional highlights/shapes were added with body filler then primed with polyester primer.



16.  Preparation for wrapping in vinyl. Areas taped off to protect against contact cement before upholstery.



17. Enclosure wrapped. Custom routered aluminum handle. And painted acrylic trim pieces to match.

The finished product installed.
